I have this 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport the Strut towers are rotted out & as you can see the driver's side is the worst. It was getting bad when I purchased in 2011 or 2012 but probably not quite this bad? To fix it would involve some custom fabrication & with 230K miles I just don't think it's worth it?
The van runs great with a very strong engine & transmission which I only had to do minor maintenance over the years which includes brakes, wheel bearing, axle, tie rods, water pump, power steering pump & alternator. But in addition to needing the strut towers repaired it would also now need new struts, new brakes & wheel bearings again. Plus tie rods & ball joints.
I only paid $1000 when I purchased it & I want to get approximately $400 obo to junk it as scrap or Parts Vehicle. It has the 3.3 V6 Flex Fuel Engine & although I'm quite positive it could make it to 300 or 400K I'm just not sure it's worth risking it. I could also drive it till the wheels fall off but that is not being responsible for other people's safety on the road with it in it's current condition.
I guess I could see if someone would buy it in it's current condition to either fix with junk yard parts or use as a parts vehicle? Although I highly doubt anyone would want to take a rsk with a engine & trans with this many miles one it? It does also have some front end damage to bumper, head lights, pass fender & rear hatch doesn't open.
Thanks in advance & have a wonderful day!!
All the best,
Ron.
