From the time when mom & dad lived on a farm out in northern Saskatchewan and we had no electricity except when dad would put the generator on. We had a wood cook stove with a reservoir at one end. The sad iron was placed on the stove and heated up. Then mom would iron a few clothes until the iron grew cold again and heating up the sad iron would start all over again. Everything in the house worked without electricity. We used coal oil lamps for light in the dark or candles. TV antennas up on the roof, treadle sewing machines to sew by. Everything could be done without electricity.
