I wanted to make good use of some oak saplings I’d removed around a rural driveway. I let them dry out and hand hewed them for some projects. The hiking staffs are topped with vacuum tubes salvaged from a retired radioman’s collection. These tubes seemed important to preserve in a worthwhile way as they are a cultural technological marvel. I’m hoping the hiking staffs find there way to interesting people that may even run into each other with these obscure functional works of art which are signed and numbered. Take care of it and it may still be worth much more money one day. Or not.
End to end the staff measures approx. 73.5” long and roughly 1.5” in diameter.
Also these do not light up, I used an LED to illuminate the tube to show the translucence.
I’m aware the wood itself isn’t an ideal hardwood, but my hopes were that the epoxy impregnated paracord wraps add strength and rigidity. It will hold up just fine if you don’t drop it down a rocky mountainside.
