The artist’s handwritten inscription at the bottom of the picture reads: “As a child, one of the highlights of my day was waiting for Papa to come home from work. Even though times were hard and money was tight, he often managed to bring us a surprise. Perhaps it was a piece of candy or a stick of gum, but sometimes it was a new kitten or a puppy for us to love. As I see my grandchildren waiting for that special time of day, I am reminded of long ago and far away and the wonderful life God gave me to remember.”
