Mid-Century Ruby Red Hand Blown Pinch Decanter Vase by Bischoff Glass - Circa 1960
$30
Excellent Pre-Owned Condition. Pickup in Olathe. No Holds.
Eye catching ruby red pinch vase that makes you do a double by thinking it might be a Blenko #49 piece, it’s not! This beauty was crafted by Bischoff Glass sometime in the 1960s. It measures 8½” x 5¾” x 4” H/W/D; weight 1.8 lbs.; crafted from blown glass; color is ruby red; made in the USA. Sleek and mid-century mod looking, the reason for its look has to do with history (see Brief History below). It’s a fabulously gorgeous piece that will prove to be the center of attention no matter where placed, with a bud or two, or not!
Brief History
Bischoff Glass Company was founded in Culloden, West Virginia in 1922. The company was acquired by Lancaster Colony Corporation in 1963. Lancaster’s plan was to move Bischoff molds with designs that would be developed by newly hired Wayne Husted, who had been Creative Director at Blenko Art Glass, until he was hired by Lancaster in 1963. Lancaster’s intent was to create a new product line styled like Blenko and name it Greenwich Flint Glass at the Indiana Glass factory in Dunkirk, IN. Lancaster had acquired a controlling interest in Indiana Glass in 1957. The Bischoff factory was officially closed in 1997. Hence the reason Bischoff glass designs look a lot like Blenko’s during this era.
