Mid Century Canonsburg Ironstone Drip Glaze Pottery Circa 1960 - Chop Plate / Platter
$14
Excellent Pre-Owned Condition. Pickup in Olathe. No Holds.
Note: Iron display rack is not included.
Fabulously large mid-century ironstone drip glaze chop plate/platter by Canonsburg. A chop plate is a round platter - typically used to serve meats and shaped like a large dinner plate, generally about 13” or larger in diameter. It belongs to my mom who no longer has a need, might you? Ironstone china is a glaze-covered earthenware that was first patented by Charles James Mason in 1813 and other manufacturers followed suit. At one point, there were almost 200 makers of ironstone china and they made everything from plates and bowls to tureens, covered casseroles, pitchers, gravy boats and even chamber pots. This large beauty measures 13” x 1” D/H; weight 2 lbs. 14 oz.; made in the USA. Color is rich and chocolatey with “lava” design striations (brown, beige, tan, cream) in a highly glazed finish. In excellent condition; there are a few underglaze spots which do not detract from its beauty and are only noticeable under certain light. Note: Iron display rack is not included.
