Vintage Mahogany Campaign Style Chairside or Bedside Table
$75
Excellent Pre-Owned Vintage Condition. Pick-Up in Olathe.
This beauty will adapt readily into any space, whether your style is contemporary or anywhere in between. As with all of the other tables we’ve acquired over the years, this one was also used as both a bedside and side table in our guest bedrooms.
The Campaign Style of this table is closely patterned after that of a Baker table of this period. There is no makers mark because it was part of a set of tables and only one of the tables in the set had a maker’s mark, which we do not own. It does have other markers underneath that to the best of my knowledge, indicates the table was made in sometime early in 1973. It’s in excellent condition and structurally sound with normal wear for its age and some scratches (see photos) which are not too noticeable unless you are hovering over the tabletop. It has the original brass hardware and a pull-out leaf with dovetailed joinery with a brass pull. The legs have a stretcher, which provides a great amount of stabilization to the frame and it’s a nice design feature too.
Features:
Materials: Mahogany Veneers; Original Brass hardware
Dimensions: Table- 25” x 21” x 27” H/W/D; Pull-out shelf- 9¾” x 8½” L/W
Color/Finish: Natural Mahogany finish with a hand polished finish
Weight: Approx. 31 lbs.
Maker: Unknown
Short History on Campaign Style Furniture
Campaign style furniture was developed in the 19th century during the height of the British Empire, when furniture companies were commissioned to make sturdy, portable pieces for high-ranking officers traveling on military campaigns. Designs were meant to be broken down and assembled easily, and finer details like brass and leather strapping not only denoted officers' social standing but also added embellishment to these utilitarian chests, chairs, stools, beds and more. Good design will always be popular and this, along with many of the original reasons for the popularity of Campaign furniture hold true today. It is practical, often versatile and naturally, very easy to move about.
