Honda Acty 4WD Mini-Truck

Honda Acty 4WD Japanese mini-truck - drives like a go-kart, hauls like a pickup. This little truck has been the most fun vehicle I've ever owned - I'm only selling it because we now have more vehicles than people in our household and it's not getting the love it deserves.

See more photos on kijiji and Autotrader (it's posted there too, so "first reply gets it" does not apply).

The right hand drive with manual transmission feels odd at first, but if you already know how to drive a 5-speed manual transmission vehicle it's very easy (it took me about 30 minutes to get used to it). The gear shifting pattern and the foot pedal positions are the same as in a left hand drive vehicle, so you don't have to relearn anything - you just shift with your left hand instead of your right. The turn signal and wiper stalks are reversed though, so it takes a little longer before you can flick the correct lever without thinking about it. The Honda Acty has excellent visibility all around, so driving from the right isn't a safety concern.

Fuel consumption is about 7 litres/100 km (33 mpg) for mixed town/highway driving with full-time 4WD. It has a liquid cooled 660 cc three cylinder engine that's not powerful enough for long highway drives, but it's great for trips to the dump, farm work, hunting, etc. It's geared nice and low (on flat roads I rarely bother with first gear) and it has an incredibly tight turn radius. Because mini-trucks are so small and manoeuvrable, with high-torque gearing, some people replace the wheels/tires with ATV wheels/tires for off-road use.

I purchased the English service manual and a couple of spare engine parts, which I will include in the sale, but other than cleaning out the carburettor and replacing the battery I haven't done much to it. There are forums online for mini-truck enthusiasts where you can find lots of information and advice if you have any problems, and you can order parts online directly from Japan or from the USA. There are also YouTube videos showing how to do some pretty in-depth maintenance on these mini-trucks.

The interior and exterior are in good shape for a 26-year-old vehicle and it only has 73,000 km on it since new (!).

I don't think it's ever been in an accident.

The truck bed is nice and low to the ground compared to a full-size pickup, and the tailgate and side panels all fold down for easy loading/unloading from any direction (see pictures on other sites). The panels can also all be removed completely to form a flatbed so you can carry something wider than the bed. It has a headache rack as well, and I have hauled 16-foot lumber and other long items securely. I've also loaded it up with over 800 pounds of paving stones... not recommended, but okay for a short trip.

It has a couple of quirks - it burns a bit of oil and it runs best with the air filter's plastic cover removed - I think the air intake, which is routed through the frame, is partially clogged somewhere. You could probably clean it out with a vacuum and a plumbing snake or something like that.

I've never actually tried the air conditioning, but the heater works great.

Price includes four studded tires on a second set of rims in addition to the all-season tires that are on it now.

It's not currently insured, but I have a 600 metre long driveway where you can test drive it.
