Code of Conduct

Trash and Treasure in Clarendon County, SC (Varagesale) guideline and rules:

1. No guns, ammo, alcohol, drugs(recreational/prescription), baby formula or weapons

2. No pet/animal transactions (sell, buy, trade, or free)

3. Use the site as intended for Buying and Selling

4. You must be a resident of Clarendon County or surrounding areas and at least 18 years of age to make transactions on this site. You must have a Facebook account and a profile picture to be a member of Clarendon County Varagesale.

5. HONOR SYSTEM. Our group, which is local, depends on the creation and maintenance of local trust by and for all its members. This means that members of this group are honor bound to keep their word and behave ethically and morally in all transactions and communications. This also means:
   a) Once you commit to sell to someone, you must honor that commitment. Don't sell it out from under the original buyer, simply because you got a better offer, after agreeing upon the sales price with the original buyer.
   b) "Commit to buy" means that you and the Seller have agreed on a final price.
   c) What does this mean for you? If you want an item badly, pay the full price.

6.. FULL DISCLOSURE. Sellers must be sure that:
a) Descriptions are placed underneath each and every photo.
b) All descriptions are complete. This means they MUST include the make, model, year, etc., size, age and especially price of your item, among other things. Do not make people ask for basic information.
c) All items are described honestly. Do not lie or exaggerate.
d) Any and all defects, even very minor ones, are mentioned in the description (or at least disclosed during exchanges with potential buyers). If there are spots, stains, scratches, dents etc. mention them, then describe them. No one likes to be surprised.
e) With all of this being said please keep in mind:
It is the "sellers" responsibility to disclose any defects to the buyer.
It is the "buyers" responsibility to check over any items before they hand over any money for any defects before they take it home.

1. PROFESSIONALISM. This is a site for doing business, and all members are required to speak and behave professionally with one another. Please keep in mind that we do not allow any DRAMA on the wall. Please work out any transaction problems between the two parties in a PRIVATE message. If nothing can be worked out contact one of the admins for help in a PRIVATE message.

2. MEETINGS. When you meet someone, keep safety in mind. Only meet in well lit, public places. If you must go to a home, bring someone with you. Better safe than sorry! Also once your have set up a meeting please be courteous and be on time. Please remember gas prices are way too high to make people meet you multiple times because of a "no show". Please report any "no show's" to the admins as they do keep a record of them. Come prepared with CASH do not expect anyone to take a CHECK!

3. CELL PHONE PURCHASES. Cell phones are a hot item right now. Literally. Sumter Police report numerous burglaries and car break-ins every day. And apparently, the one thing thieves really want (and get) is cell phones. That means you're going to see a lot of stolen cell phones for sale.
   We STRONGLY recommend that all cell phone exchange/purchases be made at the office of the local cell phone (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, etc) provider to verify that the phone is clear of past due bills, not blocked by provider, and not stolen. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU ARE NOT BUYING A STOLEN PHONE OR A WORKING PHONE. ONLY THE CELL PHONE PROVIDER CAN

4. STOLEN PROPERTY - IF YOU NOTICE A STOLEN ITEM POSTED ON THIS SITE PLEASE NOTIFY AN ADMINISTRATOR IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE THEN CALL THE POLICE AND NOTIFY THEM.

5. Ads, URL's, Website links are not allowed to be posted to other buy and sell groups.

6. CAVEAT EMPTOR. This Latin phrase, which translates as "Buyer Beware," means that everyone on the site buys and sells at their own risk. In other words:
   Please check a seller or buyer's profile before you agree to meet someone or make a deal. Make sure you are comfortable that they are who they say they are. Speaking to someone on the phone is strongly recommended, as is exchanging phone numbers before a meet.
